Save the Children Podcast? by: Genna Toye

Below is what I wrote about regarding a podcast as a post-event website addition after the Gala we put together our press kit on:

What exactly is a podcast? How can it be effective? Where are podcasts found? Who views them? Why would it go on the website after an event?
These are all questions worth asking when trying to decide whether a form of new media, such as podcasting, is worth the time and effort. First, let's define a podcast. The dictionary defines it as a Web-based audio broadcast via an RSS feed, accessed by subscription over the Internet and can combine sound, visual, and textual information to be played on a computer or on a mobile device such as an iPod.
Podcasts are effective because they are accessible to users at their convenience, unlike commercials or television broadcasts that are easily missed. Also, they can help bring the sound of a human voice to the internet. Combining these two mediums makes the message that much stronger. It's also very simple to compile and utilize, just with a click of the mouse!
In my opinion, a podcast of the Save the Children Foundation Fundraising Gala would definitely have a place on the website after the event. Such a message would help consumers see (and hear) the benefit of such events and how they can helpful for the future. Also, perhaps video clips and personal testimonies would be utilized in order to further drive home the point, in away that a blog couldn't do with text.
