What is PRSSA? By:Alyssa Cedeño
What is PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America)? Can it really benefit for not only me, but for my future career in Mass Comm/Public Relations? These are just two of the many questions I've asked myself after declaring my major sophomore year. Although I shouldn't have waited until my senior year to find answers to these questions, it's never too late, right? So, I signed up for PRSSA on September 3rd, 2009 when Iona College held its annual Involvement Fair. Later on that day I thought it was best to learn more about PRSSA. So I browsed their website for a few, and learned a great deal. I learned that becoming a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America you can get involved in the society's numerous national programs, gain exposure to professional development, leadership development, educational and networking opportunities. As an added benefit of membership in PRSSA is the opportunity to travel to great cities across the country to participate in the National Conference, the National Assembly and Regional Activities. Students who are enrolled with a PRSSA charter may join the Student Society. The dues per year are $50. Students can join in either March or November. I knew becoming a member of PRSSA 2009-2010 was a smart move; it was going to benefit for me and my future career in public relations. For those of you who aren't a PRSSA member, join! You'll gain a lot.
