Westchester Arc: Lisa Konkus

This semester I am taking a PR class that involves doing real PR work for the non-profit organization Westchester Arc. It is an agency in Westchester County that serves adults and children with developmental disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. Our class is going to be involved in the transitional program that they have which helps high school students that are getting ready to graduate develop a strategy and build a support network for achieving career, residential, social and financial goals. This project was just recently introduced to my class so I have only done research on this organization. I know that we will be helping to plan an event for the Westchester Arc along with making brochures and other things. Also a Woman named Melissa Lang who is the Head of PR for the organization came in and helped us learn more about the Westchester Arc. This organization allows those with developmental disabilities to make their own choices and help them become more independent. I am very excited to begin work for this organization. I have always been interested in non-profit PR and I think this will give me some of the work experience I will need for the future.
