HIV Vaccine Study Shows Hope

Today, The US Army Surgeon General announced their happy news. For the first time in their research they have tested a drug which has successfully lowered the HIV rate by 31.2% compared to those who were given a placebo. The Army General worked in collaboration with several other organizations. Namely, the Thai Ministry of Public Health, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, sanofi pasteur, and Global Solutions for Infectious Diseases (GSID).

Although they have found a drug which seems to be effective, the researchers are still unsure as to why the drug works. Future research is being petitioned so that they may uncover the successful combination and multiple it for the millions of people who suffer from HIV.

This discovery is so newsworthy because HIV is a world epidemic and researchers have been trying for years to develop a solution. Further, this is the first time that different countries pooled their knowledge and resources in an attempt to better the whole world. This goes to show what good can come when people care about each other instead of hate.

Now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, researchers are eager to to uncover the successful combination and multiple for the masses- confident that their drug is both safe and effective. There will be more information about this discovery released at the AIDS Vaccine Conference between October 19 and October 22 in Paris, France. Let's stay tuned for the exciting news!
